Facebook stock has reached a new low following news that analysts at Bank of America/Merrill Lynch and Bank of Montreal have lowered their price target for the stock.

"Revenue pressure from growing mobile usage, a larger-than-expected social gaming revenue slowdown, higher spending and lock-up expiration are overhangs that, in our view, will continue to impact the stock in 2012," said Bank of America-Merrill Lynch analysts.

"We remain constructive on FB's opportunity to drive an acceleration in revenue growth from new ad formats," one of the BOA analysts wrote. "We see the success of new ad formats as paramount for the stock."

Meanwhile, elsewhere on the Internet, Henry Blodget of Business Insider compiled a detailed list of information he claims could have been gleaned by anyone who took the time to read Facebook's IPO Prospectus or Mark Zuckerberg's Letter to shareholders.

South Africa charges 270 miners with murder of fellow workers

JOHANNESBURG: Some 270 miners were charged on Thursday with the murders of 34 striking colleagues who were shot and killed by South African police officers, authorities said, a development that could further infuriate South Africans already shocked and angered by the police action.

The decision to charge the miners comes under an arcane Roman-Dutch common cause law, and it suggests President Jacob Zuma's government wants to shift blame for the killings from police to the striking miners.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Frank Lesenyego said that "it's the police who were shooting but they were under attack by the protesters, who were armed, so today the 270 accused are charged with the murders" of those who were shot.

More than 150 of the arrested miners have filed complaints that they have been beaten up in police cells by officers, the Independent Police Complaints Directorate reported earlier this week.

Directorate spokesman Moses Dlamini said the complainants accused police of beating them with batons and fists and kicking and slapping them to force them to give the names of miners who hacked two police officers to death in a week of violence preceding the shootings. Eight other people were killed, including three miners and two mine security guards whom striking miners burned alive in their vehicle.

The violent strike, apparently rooted in rivalry between two trade unions, had rock drill operators demanding a minimum wage of R12,500 (USD 1,560) and complaining that their take-home pay was only about R5,500 (USD 688).

On August 16, police said they had failed to persuade the strikers to disarm and that it was "D-Day" to end the strike at the London-registered Lonmin PLC platinum mine. That afternoon, striking miners armed with clubs, machetes and at least one gun allegedly charged at police, who opened fire, killing 34 and wounding at least 78.

Some survivors said many of the miners were fleeing police tear gas and water cannons when they were shot.

Dlamini has refused to comment on local news reports that autopsies show many of those killed were shot in the back.

TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - Republicans formally nominated Mitt Romney as their presidential candidate on Tuesday to face Democratic President Barack Obama in the November 6 election.

By voice vote in a raucous arena, delegates to the Republican National Convention united behind the former Massachusetts governor, who this year outlasted a series of conservative challengers to come out on top.

Romney, 65, is in a close fight with Obama with 70 days to go until the election and Republicans hope he will gain some much-needed momentum from the Tampa convention this week.

Almost every Tampa home buyer knows how to keep an eye out for the most major defects when making an offer to purchase a home; roof repairs, electric problems and worn-out carpets can add thousands of dollars in out of pocket expenses. Unfortunately, some of the most annoying hidden home defects are not the ones likely to show up on an inspection report. In fact, many have little to do with the house at all.

Find out the REAL reason many Tampa home sellers want out of their home then use it as a negotiation tool. Remember, value is in the eye of the beholder and what bugs one buyer may not be a problem for another whatsoever.

1. Noise. If a home sits adjacent to a rail-road track then chances are you have already noticed the noise but some sources of noise pollution are much more difficult to spot; from jet planes flying overhead en route to Tampa International to a bus stop in front of the house, find out what the noise level is likely to be in the new home before making a final offer. On the other hand, if you are relocating from New York or LA then the level of noise in most Tampa neighborhoods is probably easy on the ears and might allow you to make a competitive offer on an otherwise higher priced home.

2. The Neighbors. Sometimes perfectly wonderful people just do nott see eye-to-eye. 5. High Utilities, Taxes and Insurance. Despite a cap on owner-occupied homes, the rising rate of taxes, insurance and other utilities can create a burden on fixed-income Tampa homeowners.

6. Size Matters. Sometimes a home simply does not fit any longer; Baby Boomers without children at home increasingly find a large home is more than they need while others just getting started with a new family might need more space to fit a growing family.

On September 21, T-Mobile USA may try to convince you NOT to buy the iPhone 5

T-Mobile may not be getting the iPhone 5 this year, making them once again the only major US carrier bereft of Apple's multi-million selling mobile device, and if they can't have it, dammit, they're going to make sure you don't have one either. This according to David Beren at TmoNews, who received a couple of images in his inbox hinting at what the future just might hold, or rather not hold, for T-Mobile USA.

Based on both pieces of information that just came into our inbox, we?re trying to draw two conclusions, one that T-Mobile isn?t getting the iPhone 5, which shouldn?t surprise anyone. The second is that with the receipt of new Monthly4G microSIM kits supporting the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, T-Mobile is close to announcing some news about their network refarm.

The second of the two images details September Training Priorities (Retail, Branded, RPS) and includes a section on Selling Against the iPhone.

September 21 is, of course, the day iMore learned Apple will be launching the iPhone 5 in the US. If T-Mo wants their reps selling against it, odds are it's because they won't be selling it.

T-Mobile has historically been incompatible with the iPhone due to their use of the less common AWS frequencies for 3G. The lack of an official iPhone on their network has led to severe competitive problems for T-Mobile in the past. Since the iPhone 5 may support LTE, which T-Mobile won't start supporting until 2013, that mat not be likely to change any time soon.

Previously, the 3G incompatibility meant anyone running an unlocked iPhone on T-Mobile's network was limited to 2G EDGE speeds. Still, over a million T-Mobile customers chose to do just that. In recent months, T-Mobile has been offering cheap family plans and reassigning compatible bands to 3G to help give those unofficial iPhone customers a better value and experience. T-Mobile even placed a bubble around Apple's WWDC 2012 event back in June as a symbolic gesture.

While nothing is official until Apple makes a proper announcement, if they're once again frozen out of the iPhone party this year, September 21 isn't going to be a happy day at T-Mobile USA regardless of their training plans.

Nexus 7 gets a little Google homepage love

Ah, the big guns. Google today has put the Nexus 7 tablet square in the middle of its homepage. That's a page that gets a wee mount of traffic, as you can imagine. It's also a page that, aside from the infamous Google Doodles, doesn't often get clunked up with anything that might distract from Google's true sole purpose -- search. (You'll recall that the number of words on the page traditionally is limited to 28.)

But there it is. "The playground is open," Google says. And the Nexus 7 (read our full review, by the way) is suddenly in front of a lot more eyeballs.

Now some will argue that's a sign that the Nexus 7 isn't selling well. That's certainly a possibility. But then again, we have no idea what Google's sales projections are. Others will argue that it's Google promoting its products where it can. And there's precedent for this -- the original Nexus One got some homepage love as well. Hell, so did the original Motorola Droid. This has happened before, and it will all happen again. Still, this is a strategy Google doesn't use all that often. And not everybody's happy about it. 

As for us? It's a good thing. The more eyes on the Nexus 7, the better. End of line.

Obama, Aldrin praise 'American hero' Neil Armstrong

President Barack Obama and astronaut Buzz Aldrin led tributes to the famed Apollo 11 commander Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, lauding him as a reluctant but true American hero.

Armstrong, who died from complications following cardiac bypass surgery, was praised for his willingness to embrace and then conquer challenges that had once seemed impossible.

"When he and his fellow crew members lifted off aboard Apollo 11 in 1969, they carried with them the aspirations of an entire nation," said Obama, who was two weeks short of his eighth birthday when the historic mission succeeded.

"They set out to show the world that the American spirit can see beyond what seems unimaginable -- that with enough drive and ingenuity, anything is possible," he added in a statement.

"When Neil stepped foot on the surface of the moon for the first time, he delivered a moment of human achievement that will never be forgotten."

Aldrin, who with Armstrong was watched by an estimated global television audience of 500 million as they gingerly bounced on the moon's surface in their chunky spacesuits, praised his comrade's skill, dedication and selflessness.

"I know I am joined by millions of others in mourning the passing of a true American hero and the best pilot I ever knew," Aldrin said, noting that his thoughts were with Armstrong's devastated but proud family.

"I will miss my friend Neil as I know our fellow citizens and people around the world will miss this foremost aviation and space pioneer."

The third Apollo 11 astronaut -- Michael Collins, the command module pilot who orbited the moon while his crewmates landed -- said Armstrong "was the best, and I will miss him terribly."

Armstrong, a Korean War veteran who was decorated by 17 countries and received a slew of US honors, was never comfortable with the worldwide fame that stemmed from the Apollo 11 mission, and he shied away from the limelight.

"He didn't feel that he should be out huckstering himself," John Glenn, the first American to orbit Earth told CNN, recalling Armstrong's legendary humility.

"He was a humble person, and that's the way he remained after his lunar flight, as well as before," the former Ohio senator added.

For the United States, the Apollo 11 mission was a Cold War maneuver, a bid to fulfill the vow made by President John F. Kennedy that NASA could overtake the pioneering Russian space program and put a man on the moon.

And for spellbound audiences around the world, it was also an extraordinary and optimistic voyage of discovery and engineering, whose achievements had a profound effect on space and aviation, said Obama.

"Neil was among the greatest of American heroes -- not just of his time, but of all time," the president said. "Neil's spirit of discovery lives on in all the men and women who have devoted their lives to exploring the unknown."

Obama's Republican challenger for the White House, Mitt Romney, said the space pioneer was an inspiration who now "takes his place in the hall of heroes."

"With courage unmeasured and unbounded love for his country, he walked where man had never walked before," said Romney, who spoke with Armstrong just a few weeks ago. "The moon will miss its first son of Earth."

Republican House Speaker John Boehner said: "A true hero has returned to the heavens to which he once flew."

And US Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta bid farewell on behalf of the American military to one of its own.

"As a decorated Korean War veteran, as an astronaut for NASA, and as the first man to walk on the moon, Neil inspired generations of Americans to believe that as a nation we are capable of achieving greatness that only comes with determination, perseverance and hard work," said the Pentagon chief.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard said Armstrong's death "marks the end of an amazing era in human progress."

"His example of service, accomplishment and modesty... will never die," she added.

There?s no doubt that social media has had a profound impact on how businesses market themselves. Just about everyone has a Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest or Google+ account now, and businesses are following suit.

Social media is an effective and affordable way for a business to reach out to a lot of people and stay connected with them.

However, one valid criticism of social media and dependence on the Internet in general is that people could start to lose their personal social skills and the value of networking face to face.

As people spend more of their time online using social media, browsing websites and shopping online and less time with people, what happens to the human connection?

Bringing back a human connection

The truth is that in many ways in-person networking can actually enhance social media and online networking.

When someone can put a face -not just a photo -to a name, the connection will be much stronger and more authentic.

Blindly friending everyone in the virtual world then takes a back seat to connecting with someone you?ve met personally and with whom you share a genuine connection.

Offline networking can take many forms. You can attend organized networking events and professional groups, go to Meetups and attend conferences and conventions.

You don?t have to concern yourself with promoting your brand at a tradeshow or convention, particularly if you have a booth or tent prominently featuring your logo.

You want people to remember your name and keep track of your business card, not to just think of you as a rep for your company.

You can even make impromptu connections while out in public running your errands or sipping a latte in a coffee shop. These social events and interactions can ultimately help your social media campaigns as well as improve your brand?s image both online and offline.

Getting back into in-person networking can seem daunting at first, especially if you?ve become heavily reliant on social media to the exclusion of meeting with people in person.

If this is the case, ease back into it gradually. Start with people you already have a rapport with, and don?t meet with too many people at once. Be organic and go with the flow. Let things unfold naturally, and above all, be yourself. Be genuine and authentic, and present yourself and your business in the most accurate light possible.

Blending social media networking with in-person networking can be a powerful marketing solution, and each method can enhance the other.

Davis' 3 HRs leads Orioles over Blue Jays 6-4

BALTIMORE (AP) ? Stepping to the plate with a chance to become the 17th player in baseball history to hit four home runs in a game, Chris Davis had one thing in mind.

"I was thinking about trying to work a walk," Davis said with a wry grin.

Davis didn't get that fourth homer, but three was quite enough to power the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-4 victory over the skidding Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night.

Davis hit solo shots off Carlos Villanueva (6-4) in the second and fourth innings, then greeted Steve Delabar in the sixth with an opposite-field, two-run drive to left field to put Baltimore up 5-1.

Facing Brad Lincoln in the eighth inning, Davis took three mighty swings but struck out on four pitches.

"I was definitely thinking about the home run," Davis said. "He gave me a good pitch to hit on the first pitch and I fouled it off. He was tough after that, but the biggest thing is we get the win and I enjoyed a pretty good night."

To say the least.

It was the first three-homer game for Davis, whose previous high was two on May 26, 2009, against the Yankees as a member of the Texas Rangers. The three home runs gave him 23 for the season, eclipsing his previous career high of 21 in 2009.

After the last one, Davis stepped out of the dugout to acknowledge the request for a curtain call by the crowd of 25,754. He's the 19th Oriole to hit three home runs in a game, the first since Nick Markakis in August 2006.

"It was awesome," Davis said of the ovation. "I mean, these fans have been awesome all year."

On Wednesday night, Adrian Beltre hit three homers for Texas against Baltimore. The Orioles, who were off Thursday, become the first team in major league history to be involved in two straight games in which a player homered three times, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Zach Britton (3-1) allowed two runs and four hits in 6 2-3 innings for the Orioles, who have won seven of 11 to remain in the thick of the AL wild-card race.

After Jeff Mathis hit a two-run homer off Matt Lindstrom in the ninth, Jim Johnson got three outs for his 39th save.

It was the sixth straight defeat for the last-place Blue Jays and their season-high seventh consecutive loss on the road. But Toronto did, at least, end a run of seven successive games without scoring more than three runs.

Unfortunately for the Jays, their offensive outburst wasn't enough to overcome Davis' three long balls.

"He had a good day," Villanueva said. "He's capable of doing that. You make some mistakes, he did what you're supposed to do with them. Especially the last two. He won them the ballgame, simple as that."

Earlier in the day, the Blue Jays activated Jose Bautista (left wrist inflammation) from the 15-day disabled list. Playing in his first major league game since July 16, Bautista went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts.

Toronto went up 1-0 in the second inning when Edwin Encarnacion doubled and came home on a single by Kelly Johnson. The Blue Jays didn't get another hit until Encarnacion singled with two outs in the sixth.

Davis connected on Villanueva's first pitch in the bottom of the second. It was the 66th home run in the 21-year history of Camden Yards to land on Eutaw Street in front of the B&O Warehouse, the third hit by Davis.

In the fourth, Orioles shortstop J.J. Hardy dived behind second base to make a sensational stop on a grounder by Johnson and got a force out with a backhanded flip to second.

Davis homered to center on a 2-2 pitch in the fourth. His sixth-inning drive, on Delabar's second pitch, followed a sacrifice fly by Matt Wieters.

Toronto's Rajai Davis doubled in a run in the seventh before Brian Matusz struck out Colby Rasmus on three pitches. It was the first relief appearance by Matusz after 68 career starts.

NOTES: The Orioles recalled Matusz from Triple-A Norfolk, designated LHP J.C. Romero for assignment, activated INF Ryan Flaherty from the DL and optioned RHP Tommy Hunter to Double-A Bowie. ... Rates improved yesterday and today, as the stock market declined. Once again it was concerns out Europe that spooked the stock market. As predicted, Europe?s debt crisis is again making investors worldwide nervous and thus improving rates.

We frequently have lunch with competitors to find out what is going on in the industry; we like to make sure there is not some technology, market segment or manner of business that we are ignoring. It usually turns out that we are ahead of the game.

Our most recent lunch was with a very high producing loan officer who focused only on Conventional loans until about 3 months ago. This was his revelation: ?I wish I had focused on FHA loans sooner. It turns out that my FHA buyers are often much stronger. We never have appraisal issues and the underwriting flexibility results in fewer problems??

The point is that Conventional Purchases are often more likely to have deal-killing issues than FHA loans. Because FHA allows for 100% ?Gift Funds?, sourcing funds is often less of an issue. Also, it is a myth that FHA appraisals are significantly tougher (FHA only requires a few more ?checks? ? appliances, peeling paint, water heater straps, etc.).

And FHA buyers have to pay Mortgage Insurance no matter what, so a low appraisal is often more easily dealt with. Conventional buyers putting down 20% to avoid mortgage insurance often have more severe reactions to a low appraisal.

Point: FHA offers need to be held in higher esteem.

Shell-based spray keeps bananas fresh

Chemists from China are working on a spray made from shrimp and crab shells that could extend the life of your bananas from a day or two to a week or more.

Fruit going bad from when it was picked?isn't just a simple question of time; there's a complex interplay between the sugars and other substances that make up the fruit, the bacteria that live inside it?and the air around it. In bananas, unlike other fruits, the process accelerates after they're picked, resulting in the frustratingly?short period (for consumers and sellers)?between unripe and overripe.

A team from Tianjin University of Science and Technology in China hopes that a substance called chitosan could help slow the process. It's made from the shells of crustaceans like shrimp, crabs and lobsters (composed of chitin, hence the name), and has powerful anti-bacterial qualities. They presented their findings Wednesday?at the American Chemical Society's?National Meeting and Exposition.

Chitosan is already used for agricultural and medicinal purposes, but this would be the first time it might be deployable by consumers. By spraying it onto the banana in the form of a super-absorbent "hydrogel," the researchers managed to slow the respiration and bacterial growth, extending the life of a banana up to 12 days.

Spraying it early on could ease the logistics of getting fresh bananas to faraway locations, and spraying it at the store or at home could potentially keep the fruit in peak yellow condition for much longer and reduce waste.

Unfortunately for consumers, the team is still investigating how to make a commercially viable product, which means finding a replacement?for an ingredient that happens to be unsuitable for general use. So for the moment,?mushy bananas will continue to be a familiar sight in the world's kitchens.

Nikon unveiled three new additions to its Coolpix line of point-and-shoot digital cameras on Sunday.

The most exciting of these is the Coolpix S800c, which combines Nikon's imaging technologies with built-in Wi-Fi and the Android OS, confirming earlier rumors that the company was working on an Android-powered camera. Calling it the "perfect camera for 'connected' individuals," Nikon says the S800c allows for easy sharing of photos through social networks. It comes with a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, a 10x zoom lens, HD video recording, GPS and access to Android apps.

Dubbed Nikon's new flagship Coolpix camera, the P7700 features a 12.2-megapixel sensor, 7.1x zoom lens, manual controls and 1080p HD capability.

Finally, a more affordable option for casual photographers is the S01, an "ultra-mini" point-and-shoot. Weighing only 3.4 ounces, the camera has a touchscreen operating system, 3x wide-angle zoom and easy auto modes.

All three cameras will be in stores this September. The S800c will be available in black and white for $349.95, the P7700 only comes in black at a cost of $499.95 and the S01 will be available in silver, white, red and pink for $179.95.
