(AP) ? Abby Wambach became the first non-British woman to score a goal at Old Trafford. She and her teammates celebrated by coercing Hope Solo to get on the ground and do "the worm."

There were other such moments unfamiliar to the venerable home of Manchester United on Tuesday, when chants of "U-S-A!" echoed for the Americans' 1-0 win over North Korea in front of 29,522 fans ? easily the largest crowd ever to occupy the familiar red seats for a women's game.

"The worm at Old Trafford! Are you kidding me?" Solo said.

The victory gave the U.S. team first place in its group with three wins in three games, the first time the Americans have ever swept their group opponents in Olympic play. They were already assured a berth in the next round entering the game, and they'll now move on to Newcastle for a quarterfinal match on Friday against New Zealand.

Although claiming to be a reluctant participant, Solo and captain Christie Rampone flopped to the ground after Wambach's goal in the 25th minute. The other nine players joined hands, wriggled their arms like a giant worm and pointed to the pair of players doing the funky dance move from the 1970s and '80s.

"Hope doesn't get involved in the celebrations very often," Wambach said. "And so we wanted to get her involved, and she said the worm is one of the things that she can contribute, so we kind of planned it out before the game. Thankfully we got the goal so that we could actually display it."

Solo could probably pick any dance she wanted, having appeared on "Dancing With the Stars" last year. Wambach said the celebration was a late birthday present for the goalkeeper, who turned 31 on Monday, but it also served to reinforce team camaraderie after Solo's recent Twitter rant that prompted a meeting with the coach and captains.

"I think that Hope prefers the wins and the shutouts as birthday presents," Wambach said. "But it was great to get her involved because it makes us feel what the game is about. It's about fun. It's about laughing and enjoying it out there ? because how often are you going to say you played at Old Trafford and scored a goal?"

Old Trafford had hosted only domestic women's games previously. The last one was an FA Cup final in 1989 that drew less than 1,000 fans.

"You think of the great players that have played out there before us, and the goals that have been scored," defender Amy LePeilbet said. "It's one of the highlights of my career."

The North Koreans finished with a 1-2 record in the group and still had a chance to advance, but they were eliminated later in the day when New Zealand claimed the final quarterfinal berth with a win over Cameroon.

North Korea is ranked in the top 10 in the world, but it remains an unknown in women's soccer because players and officials have limited interaction with other teams. The country sent a very young squad to these Olympics: The average age of 19 years, 11 months made it look like a junior club next to the Americans, who checked in at 28 years, 1 month.

"Our team is made up of very young players, so there is nobody who can blame them for not doing well," coach Sin Ui Gun said through an interpreter. "This time it was a great experience for them."

North Korea finished Tuesday's game with 10 players after Choe Mi Gyong was sent off with a second yellow card in the 81st minute following a tackle on Lauren Cheney.

With a place in the next round assured, U.S. coach Pia Sundhage had her players take it easy in the second half, slowing the pace of play to keep the legs fresh for the quarterfinals. North Korea nearly capitalized with a tying goal, producing several scoring threats in a three-minute stretch that forced Solo to the ground twice.

"There were times when we could have possessed the ball better," Sundhage said. "We were a little bit naive, naive in the middle. I can see the players want to do some great things out there ? it is the Olympics ? but sometimes we could have been a little bit smarter and kept the ball."

Mostly, however, Solo had plenty of downtime to think about her next series of tweets. She ruffled feathers after the last game by using Twitter to criticize NBC analyst and former U.S. player Brandi Chastain's commentary. Despite the meeting with the coach, Solo didn't back down her comments and said Tuesday the team wasn't affected by any distractions.

"Do you see the way our team is performing?" Solo said. "We're having fun. We're scoring goals. We swept our group. I don't think there's any distractions."

The goal came on a play set up by Cheney's long ball to Alex Morgan, who slid a pass between two defenders to Wambach for an easy tap-in and her third goal of the tournament. Morgan and Wambach both hit the right post in the first half, part of a series of near-misses that kept the score close.

"Even though some of us played 90 minutes, it was definitely a restful game for a lot of us, which is the most important thing," Wambach said. "Because we need fresh legs going in the quarterfinals, which is where the fun begins. You lose and you go home."

Huge landslides spotted on tiny moon

Scientist studying Saturn's icy moon of Iapetus have detected several 50-mile-long landslides, a phenomenon that they attribute to flash heating.

By Nola Taylor Redd,?SPACE.com / July 30, 2012

Long landslides spotted on Saturn's moon, Iapetus, could help provide clues to similar movements of material on Earth. Scientists studying the icy satellite have determined that flash heating could cause falling ice to travel 10 to 15 times farther than previously expected on Iapetus.

Extended landslides can be found on Mars and Earth, but are more likely to be composed of rock than ice. Despite the differences in materials, scientists believe there could be a link between the long-tumbling debris on all three bodies.

"We think there's more likely a common mechanism for all of this, and we want to be able to explain all of the observations," lead scientist Kelsi Singer of Washington University told SPACE.com.

Rock-hard ice

Giant landslides stretching as far as 50 miles (80 kilometers) litter the surface of Iapetus. Singer and her team identified 30 such displacements by studying images taken by NASA's Cassini spacecraft. [Photos: Latest Saturn Photos from NASA's Cassini Orbiter]

Composed almost completely of ice,?Iapetus?already stands out from other moons. While most bodies in the solar system have rocky mantles and metallic cores, with an icy layer on top, scientists think Iapetus is composed almost completely of frozen water. There are bits of rock and carbonaceous material that make half the moon appear darker than the other, but this seems to be only a surface feature.

Ice on Iapetus?is different from ice found on Earth. Because the moon's temperature can get as low as 300 degrees Fahrenheit (150 degrees Celsius), the moon's ice is very hard and very dry.

"It's more like what we experience on Earth as rock, just because it's so cold," Singer said.

Slow-moving ice creates a lot of friction, so when the ice falls from high places, scientists expected that it would behave much like rock on Earth does. Instead, they found that it traveled significantly farther than predicted.

How far a landslide runs is usually related to how far it falls, Singer explained. Most of the time, debris of any type loses energy before traveling twice the distance it fell from. But on Iapetus, the pieces of ice move 20 to 30 times as far as their falling height.

Flash heating could be providing that extra push.

Faster and farther

Flash heating occurs when material falls so fast that the heat doesn't have time to dissipate. Instead, it stays concentrated in small areas, reducing the friction between the sliding objects and allowing them to travel faster and farther than they would under normal conditions.

"They're almost acting more like a fluid," Singer said.

On Iapetus, falling material has a good chance of reaching great speeds because there are a number of great heights to fall from. The moon hosts a?ring of mountains?around its bulging equator that can tower as high as 12 miles (20 km), and the longest run-outs discovered are associated with the ridge and with impact-basin walls.

PFT: Holdout over ? Tannehill, Miami agree

Richard Bartel, Kevin Kolb, Ryan Lindley, John SkeltonAP

At a Cardinals Fan Fest last month, quarterback Kevin Kolb heard the boo birds.? At the annual Red and White scrimmage on Saturday, a record crowd of roughly 14,500 was more restrained ? despite Kolb?s performance.

According to the Associated Press, Kolb was ?heckled a bit by a few in the crowd? after throwing a pair of interceptions.? Kolb and John Skelton shared snaps with the first-string offense.

?It all comes out of my hands so it?s ultimately on me,? Kolb said.? ?That?s the way I?ll approach it and look at it and move forward.?

Receiver Larry Fitzgerald put the blame more broadly on the entire offense.

?I thought we definitely could have executed better,? Fitzgerald said.? ?That falls on us as players.? This is the first week of camp.? We?re running our base offense.? This is stuff we should be able to do in our sleep.? There?s nobody to blame but the 11 of us breaking the huddle.?

Kolb threw a touchdown pass, Skelton didn?t.? But Skelton didn?t throw any picks.

Coach Ken Whisenhunt cautioned against drawing any conclusions from their respective performances.

?Kevin was the guy that had the second spot in the rotation today so he was playing with the No. 2 line a lot.? In fact, we had a center in there that hadn?t taken any snaps because we had one go down in practice [Friday].? We had some protection issues where he didn?t get a chance to sit in there but he had some dropped balls, too.? It?s kind of hard to evaluate it.? That?s why you don?t make snap judgments when you?re doing this with the quarterbacks.?

Frankly, the fact that Kolb had the second spot in the rotation seems more alarming than his performance.

Then again, maybe Whisenhunt simply wanted to insulate Kolb from the indignity of being greeted by boos.

Increase Your Self-Confidence In Spite Of Hair Loss

Most people handle themselves in front of other people with confidence because they are satisfied with the way that they look. However for men who are experiencing hair loss, feeling confident in front of other people can be a hard thing. This is because when interacting with other people they cannot help think people are only focusing on the balding spot on there head and not on what they are actually saying.

While it is a true statement that hair loss can largely affect a persons overall appearance, it is not enough reason to lose total self-confidence. If you are one of those people who are losing your hair and your self confidence, sometimes the only thing that you can do is to learn how to cope with your hair loss.

Coping with your hair loss will start with acceptance that you are really suffering from a disease that is totally out of your control. Experts agree that hair loss can be broken up into two categories, permanent and temporary hair loss. People who have permanent hair loss are those who have the condition in there genes or have a hereditary predisposition. Since it is caused by genes, there is not much that can be done about it, except to learn how to slow the process down and seek alternative remedies. Other conditions where a person cannot do much about there loss of hair is if they may be suffering from autoimmune illnesses like cancer, Lupus or Thyroid complications. People that are suffering from medical problems are also in greater risk of losing there hair at a much faster rate then normal.

People who are losing there hair temporarily are those who are losing there hair because of pregnancy or other hormonal changes or are taking birth control pills. or are on any medical treatments for cancer or are using hair styles that put a tremendous amount of pressure on the scalp or by changing hair styles or using hair products that are harmful to the hair.

Knowing what causes your hair loss will help you cope with it easier. Most people cannot determine this on there own so going to a specialist to diagnose the condition is a smart move. Once you know what is causing your condition, you can then find available treatment options to treat your loss of hair before it gets out of control.

People can still look good despite there condition of hair loss. Since sometimes there is little to be done about the loss of hair, they need to focus on other aspects of there body and personality to be beautiful and have confidence when facing others. The following are things that can be done to boost self confidence despite the loss of hair.

1. Maximize make-up.

With women, make-up will greatly affect the overall appearance. Try to get some confidence from your beautiful face with the help of some cosmetics, if you are losing your hair. Another product to use to hide your hair loss would be a hair piece or wig some of these come with a rather large price tag, but it is not very uncommon for a person to use a hair piece or wig to make them selves look more beautiful.

2. Take excellent care of your skin.

Your skin is the largest organ of the body, by having youthful and beautiful skin despite having hair loss can make allot of difference. To achieve beautiful skin make it a habit to avoid the sun and use sunscreen to protect your self from the harmful rays of the sun, do not smoke get plenty of exercise and get plenty of rest.

Australian, Nigerian held in Malaysia for drugs

An Australian woman and a Nigerian man have been arrested in Malaysia after drugs were discovered in the car they were driving in the capital Kuala Lumpur, police said Saturday.

Police arrested the duo after stopping their car and finding one kilogram (2.2 pounds) of methamphetamine on July 17, federal narcotics chief Noor Rashid Ibrahim said.

The two were in custody and being investigated for drug trafficking. Noor Rashid did not immediately have further details.

Drug trafficking carries a mandatory death sentence by hanging in Malaysia, where hundreds of people are on death row, mostly for drug offences.

Anyone found to be in possession of at least 50 grams of methamphetamine is considered a trafficker.

In March, Australian Dominic Jude Christopher Bird, 32, was charged with drug trafficking.

The truck driver from Perth in Western Australia was arrested March 1 in Kuala Lumpur in possession of 225 grams of methamphetamine.

EYES ON LONDON: Double-amputee star runner arrives

LONDON (AP) ? Around the 2012 Olympics and its host city with journalists from The Associated Press bringing the flavor and details of the games to you:

___

PREPPED FOR HISTORY

Double-amputee runner Oscar Pistorius has arrived in London for his historic debut at the Olympics and says he's feeling "a mixture of pride, happiness and anticipation" at the end of his long journey to compete at the highest level in able-bodied competition.

Pistorius made the short flight across from his training camp in northern Italy and says he's "really excited" to attend the opening ceremony.

The South African has been battling for four years to reach the 2012 games. He was cleared to compete against able-bodied competitors on his carbon fiber blades in 2008, ran two qualifying times for London in the last 12 months, but missed out on the crucial third under his country's strict qualifying criteria.

But the selectors had a last-minute change of heart weeks before the games and picked him for the individual 400 meters as well as the 4x400 relay.

In an email to the AP, Pistorius says: "This feels like a long time coming and I am ready! This is going to be, I hope, an incredible few weeks of my life."

His first run at the Olympics will be in the 400 heats on Aug. 4. It'll be history.

DIPLOMATIC MARATHON

It sounds almost as exhausting as the sport.

Britain's foreign policy chief William Hague is carrying out a frantic round of Olympic diplomacy, greeting foreign dignitaries arriving for the Summer Games ? and taking a chance to press them over trade, the Middle East and the violence in Syria.

Already, Hague has met with the prime ministers of Haiti, Lebanon, Kosovo, Panama's president and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. In the coming days he has talks scheduled with VIPs from Bangladesh, India, Singapore and New Zealand.

LITTLE BOYS?

The British men's volleyball team is playing in its first-ever Olympics. But truth be told, if the men hadn't earned an automatic berth as the host nation, they likely wouldn't be there.

The team is currently ranked 92nd in the world, and admittedly are a long shot for the gold. "Everybody sees us as the little boys of the volleyball competition. I hope we surprise some people," coach Harry Brokking says.

HIDDEN CEREMONY

Britain's women's footballers say they will wear their opening ceremony uniforms even though they'll be about 155 miles (250 kilometers) away in Wales.

But they'll have to draw the curtains ? at least until late at night.

They have a special room to watch the ceremony on television but they'll not be allowed to be seen in their uniforms until the British team is introduced for its parade at about 11 p.m. local time.

Coach Hope Powell says "the girls really just want to embrace it and be part of it" but admits: "It will be odd."

SUDAN DENIES ASYLUM REPORT

Here's a reaction just in from the Sudanese Embassy, denying reports that one of its Olympic runners has applied for asylum in the U.K.

"We herewith categorically refute allegations ... that a Sudanese member of those who qualified for the Olympic competition and have arrived in London is either missing (or) sought political asylum."

The male Olympian reportedly showed up Tuesday night at a police station near the northern English city of Leeds.

___

RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE

Draped in a British flag, 35-year-old Greg Kemp struck a pose below the Orbit, just outside Olympic Stadium shortly after entering the stadium.

The London native can't help but reflect on what his city has been through to get to this point.

"I remember winning the bid and the next day the bombings," Kemp says. "And from there to standing here and it's actually done, it's pretty spectacular.

"It's the journey of a city, isn't it? In 10 years' time, this is the history of London. And to make it to here, it's the center of the universe in my opinion and it's the greatest city in the world."

FOOD WITH NO NAME

Food choices are simple at the ExCel arena, the giant convention center hosting seven Olympic disciplines. Because McDonald's has exclusive rights to sell branded products, the dozen concessions at the venue are prohibited from using a specific name.

So, here's what's on offer on large signs:

?"Traditional Roast."

?"Sandwich."

?"Bagel"

?"Italian" or "Chinese."

? "Baked Potato" ? which, by the way, is often called a "jacket potato" in these parts.

CAGE FIGHTERS ... AND DOGS?

Timmy Duggan tried to come up with a way of describing what it's like to be a cyclist during a marquee event, and he left the rest of the American team in stitches.

"You have to have the endurance of a Siberian Husky for the five minutes of the race that truly matters," the first-time Olympian opined, "and it's the strength of an ultimate cage fighter, with fighter-pilot reactions, which is a pretty cool sport, when you think about it."

Duggan certainly won't be making any friends with mixed martial artists, though.

"We're pushing ourselves much harder than you even can in something like cage fighting," Duggan said. "We're going so hard that you can't stand up anymore. We just keep killing ourselves."

For the record, Duggan doesn't own a Siberian Husky, though he admitted that "I've read a lot of books about dog racing." And as for fighting, well ...

"I wouldn't take my chances," he said. "That's why I'm a bike racer."

KEEP DREAM-ING

You get the sense that LeBron James doesn't want to hear another word about it.

"Who's better ? 1992 or 2012?" That's been a talking point for weeks, the comparison between the 1992 Dream Team that went to Barcelona and this year's Olympic team.

"It's never going to happen," James said Friday of a hypothetical game between the two teams. "It doesn't matter how much conversation that we have about this team and the '92 Dream Team. It's never going to be played. Father Time is not going to allow that to happen. So it doesn't even matter."

That wasn't his way of downplaying expectations about what to expect from the U.S. squad in London.

Quite the contrary.

James, who won the NBA MVP award, the NBA Finals MVP award and led the Miami Heat to the title this past season, is fully expecting to add Olympic gold to his unbelievable year.

"I know one thing," James said. "I know we have a great team. And if we play as a team, like we're capable of doing, we can be one of the best teams ever assembled.

IT'S CALLED RACE WALKING

Of all the sports to watch at the Olympics, race walking is probably not No. 1 on many people's lists. But three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant can't wait to check it out.

The Oklahoma Thunder star singled out the event Friday when asked what he plans to watch during his free time in London. That's when he's not trying to help Team USA win a second straight gold medal.

Mind you, he didn't get the name of the sport quite right.

"I want to watch some speed walking," he said, using the incorrect term for the event. "I didn't even know that was an Olympic sport."

TENNIS CHANGE

Update the roster at Wimbledon for Olympic tennis.

Laura Robson of Britain will play singles at the Olympics, replacing Petra Martic of Croatia after she pulled out because of injury.

Robson, a hometown fan favorite who is also playing doubles, will face Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the first round. Robson won the Wimbledon junior title in 2008, and expectations have been high ever since. But she has won only one of her five matches in four main draw appearances.

The last British woman to win the Wimbledon titles was Virginia Wade in 1977.

AT OLYMPIC STADIUM

Olympic workers, concessionaires and opening ceremony participants are hustling around Olympic Stadium trying to put the final pieces in place for Friday night's opening ceremony.

Drinks are being transported, dance routines practiced and security workers are taking pains to keep passers by from entering the stadium while final preparations continue.

I did catch a quick glimpse before being turned away, seeing a stage with some sort of cottage as the centerpiece. Your guess is as good as mine.

ARE YOU TAYLOR'S MOM?

Connie Carpenter-Phinney has quite an athletic resume. She went to the Olympics in speed skating. She won Olympic gold as a cyclist.

And in London, she's probably best known for something else.

Here's a tip: If you want to get on her good side immediately, approach her and ask, "Are you Taylor Phinney's mom?"

"That's the best thing you could say to me," Carpenter-Phinney says.

Fittingly, she was one of the headline attractions Friday at the opening of the P&G U.S. Family Home in London. It's a place where Olympic moms can have a "home away from home" as part of the sponsor's "Thank you, Mom" campaign.

The Phinneys are the first family of cycling in the U.S. Davis Phinney, the dad, won stages of the Tour de France during his pro career, and Connie Carpenter-Phinney took the Olympic title at Los Angeles in 1984. (Davis Phinney won bronze there as well.) And now their oldest kid is about to compete in his second Olympics.

"I couldn't be prouder," his mom says.

Olympic viewing: NBC sets opening ceremony record

(AP) ? A look at media coverage of the London Olympics:

An opening ceremony from the mother country with a Beatle, a queen and Mr. Bean proved irresistible for viewers in the United States, with a record-setting 40.7 million people watching NBC's first night of summer Olympics coverage.

The Nielsen company said Saturday that London's opener was the most-watched opening ceremony of any summer or winter Olympics. It topped the previous mark of 39.8 million people who watched the 1996 Atlanta Olympics begin, and the 34.9 million who watched the colorful first night from Beijing four years ago.

The London ceremony featured an unusual made-for-TV stunt featuring actor Daniel Craig portraying James Bond escorting the real-life Queen Elizabeth II to the ceremony and ended with Paul McCartney's anthemic "Hey Jude." But according to Twitter, the biggest spike in tweets came when actor Rowan Atkinson ("Mr. Bean") appeared in a "Chariots of Fire" homage.

An estimated 5 million comments about the opening ceremony were made on social media, according to the research company Bluefin Labs. It was more interesting to women, apparently, as 58 percent of the comments were from women and 42 percent from men, Bluefin said.

It was the most-watched television event in the U.S. since the winter, when 39.9 million people watched the Grammy Awards and 39.3 million saw the Oscars.

The results were a good sign for NBC and broadcast TV in general, which is increasingly finding that big events draw people to the screen more than regular entertainment programming ? most likely encouraged by multi-screen experiences, or people conversing through social media while watching television.

NBC Universal also earned a measure of redemption from critics. The company, which began streaming all of the Olympics competition online live Saturday, was blistered on Twitter on Friday by people who wondered why the opening ceremony wasn't shown live (it was aired on NBC on tape delay, because London's time zone is five hours ahead of the eastern United States). But four years ago in Beijing, NBC learned such complaints only increased buzz and made people more interested in watching it on TV in prime time.

"The audience number for the London opening ceremony is a great early sign that our strategy of driving people to watch NBC in prime time is working," said Mark Lazarus, chairman of the NBC Sports Group.

Twitter was alight again Saturday with complaints against NBC for not broadcasting live the men's 400-meter swimming race that American Ryan Lochte won, with Michael Phelps finishing fourth. The network said the race was shown live on its website. NBC has been adamant about saving the highest-profile television events for prime time, when it has its largest audience. Because of the time zone, there are no live events for NBC to show during prime time.

Regionally, the top ratings Friday night were recorded in San Diego, Washington, D.C. and West Palm Beach, Fla., Nielsen said.

Despite selling more than $1 billion worth of advertising for the London Olympics, NBC Universal has said it expects to lose money on the games. Higher ratings, however, could help NBC earn more money by selling additional advertising at a higher cost as the games go on.

RERUN: NBC aired a rerun of Olympics competition at 11 a.m. EDT on Saturday. But it was justified: the network showed Michael Phelps' initial qualifying race, which had been aired live shortly after 5 a.m.

CLOSE GAME: The tighter-than-expected women's basketball game between the U.S. and Croatia challenged NBC announcers Bob Fitzgerald and Lisa Leslie. They were in an awkward position, following the "home team" for U.S. viewers in what was turning into a Cinderella situation for the other side. Before pulling away at the end, the U.S. led 53-49 after three quarters against a team that it had beaten by 54 points a week ago, a team that barely made the Olympics. The announcers could have done a better job exploring the deficiencies of the U.S. play and whether it put an anticipated gold medal run in jeopardy.

QUOTE: "They'll be partying on the streets of Kazakhstan tonight." ? cycling analyst Paul Sherwen after Alexandr Vinokurov's unexpected win in the men's road race.

UPCOMING: The U.S. women's gymnastics team springs into action on NBC on Sunday night. In daytime viewing, the U.S. men's basketball team opens against France.

Treatment Progress of Melanoma - Reversing Skin Cancer of the Scalp

Most cancers produce a very high amount of heat from the additional blood flow they gain while growing, which is visible on Thermal Imaging as a white/red area.
Melanoma is a cancer that develops in melanocytes, the pigment cells present in the skin. It can be more serious than the other forms of skin cancer because it may spread to other parts of the body (metastasize) and cause serious illness and death. About 50,000 new cases of melanoma are diagnosed in the United States every year.www.phmiracleliving.com

Facebook's stock tumbles after 1st public quarter

(AP) ? Facebook's first earnings report as a public company had solid numbers, but in the end it landed with a thud ? much like its rocky initial public offering two months ago.

Facebook reported stronger-than-expected revenue and a gain in user numbers Thursday. But investors weren't impressed and after a brief spike, its stock fell more than 10 percent, or $2.74, to $24.10 in after-hours trading. The decline means Facebook's stock will most likely open at its lowest level since going public.

It's another big disappointment for the Harvard-born company that was supposed to usher in the next Internet boom.

"They didn't break any banks," said Debra Aho Williamson, an analyst at research firm eMarketer. "They did not come out any better than anybody had expected."

What may have rattled investors is that Facebook's revenue growth has slowed. Between 2009 and 2010, the company's revenue nearly tripled. In the first quarter of this year, revenue climbed 44 percent. In the second quarter, Facebook Inc.'s revenue increased 32 percent to $1.18 billion from $895 million a year earlier. Analysts, on average had expected slightly lower revenue of $1.16 billion, according to FactSet.

For a freshly public company such as Facebook, the decelerating revenue growth is a concern. A bet on fast-growing revenue is the reason investors are willing to value new companies highly even if they are not making a profit. Another reason jittery investors may be even more nervous: Facebook didn't offer investors and financial analysts its outlook for the rest of the year.

Meanwhile, the number of people who access Facebook regularly inched closer to 1 billion. The company said it had 955 million active monthly users as of June 30, up 29 percent from a year earlier. At the end of the first quarter, it had 901 million users.

Overall the Menlo Park, Calif.-based company posted a loss of $157 million, or 8 cents per share in the April-June period, mainly due to compensation expenses it incurred when it paid $1.3 billion in restricted stock and related taxes for employees as part of the IPO. The loss compared with earnings of $240 million, or 11 cents per share, in the second quarter a year ago. The company's adjusted earnings of $295 million, or 12 cents per share, matched Wall Street's expectations.

The results come two months after Facebook's stock flopped on its first trading day, on May 18. The day began with glitches with the Nasdaq stock market that delayed trading by half an hour. It didn't get much better from there. Despite months of hoopla that had investors thinking it would soar, the stock closed just 23 cents above its $38 IPO price. It has not reached that level since.

Though Facebook had a lot riding on its first public report, Wall Street's outlook was muted, which could be another reason for the stock's decline.

"People are waiting for a really huge growth moment in revenue, advertising, dollars per user," said Alex Ashby, research analyst at Global X Funds, a provider of a social media exchange-traded fund. "People had expected that Facebook is going to revolutionize advertising...we think it's still a definite possibility, but maybe further down the road."

Investors were holding out hope that Facebook would far exceed expectations ?even though the company effectively warned investors before its IPO that Wall Street's expectations were too high. In a filing issued a week before its IPO, for instance, Facebook said its mobile users are growing at a faster pace than the number of ads on its mobile platform.

Analysts took that as a sign that their estimates were out of whack and many of them reduced their estimates for Facebook's projected revenue and earnings.

Even though the number of people who use mobile devices and tablet computers to access Facebook had been growing fast, Facebook didn't start showing ads on its mobile app until this spring. Facebook had 543 million active monthly mobile users at the end of the quarter, a 67 percent increase from a year earlier.

In a conference call with analysts, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said Facebook's mobile users are more active than those who use the personal computer version.

"On average mobile users are around 20 percent more likely to use Facebook on any given day," he said. "So mobile not only gives us the potential to connect more people with our services and also gives us the ability to provide more value and more deeply engaging experience."

Facebook said its revenue from advertising totaled $992 million, a 28 percent increase from the same quarter last year. That number accounted for 84 percent of total revenue. The company did not say what portion was from mobile advertising. The rest came from payments and other fees, money Facebook makes from Zynga games and other apps.

How to Justify a Vacation When You're Self-Employed

Nellie Akalp is the CEO of CorpNet.com, an online legal document filing service, where she helps entrepreneurs incorporate or form an LLC for their new businesses. Connect with Nellie on Twitter or visit her free resource center.

Taking time off is critical to refresh and recharge yourself. However, when it comes to vacation time, considerations are quite different for those who are self-employed versus company employees with paid vacation time.

[More from Mashable: 2012 Olympics: The Must-Follow Athletes on Twitter]

For starters, when you?re self-employed, you?re typically paid based on your productivity. Taking one week off means no pay check. That cost needs to be factored into any vacation budget.

SEE ALSO: Self-Employed? How to Give Yourself a Raise in 2012

[More from Mashable: Viber Gets Group Messaging and Two Other Stories You Need to Know]

Perhaps more importantly, when you?re running a business of one, there?s no one who can assist your clients and customers while you?re enjoying a well-deserved respite. Many freelancers worry about leaving their clients in the lurch, and then losing clients altogether. If you?re self-employed and dreaming of taking that vacation to the beach, here are a few things to consider.

The Importance of a Vacation

Vacations are one of the world?s best stress busters. In fact, an annual vacation cuts the risk of heart attacks in men by 30% and by 50% in women.

If you?re living in America, chances are you?ll take less vacation than your counterparts in other countries. Most of Europe requires four to five weeks off by law (in addition to extra weeks by agreement with employers), as do Australians and Brazilians, among others. The U.S. is one of the few developed countries that has no federal law mandating employee vacation time. That?s why the Center for Economic and Policy Research dubbed it ?No Vacation Nation.?

Consider Some Work

Many freelancers choose to do some level of work while on vacation, particularly when faced with the choice between working a few hours on vacation or no vacation at all. If you work from home or in the cloud, then you can likely bring your work along with you on any trip. However, just because you can take a working vacation doesn?t necessarily mean you should.

You should determine just how grueling the work demands will be. If you?re going to be stuck in an internet cafe all day while everyone is at the beach, that?s hardly a vacation. Likewise, one could also argue that if you?re tied to client emails all day at the beach, that?s not a vacation either. Remember, a critical part of any vacation is leisure and rest. It?s hard to tell the brain to rest when all your tech tools are constantly tempting you to stay in contact.

However, you might be able to strike a healthy balance if you can take care of business matters for an hour in the morning or at night (and put work aside for the rest of the day). Another successful strategy is to tell clients that you'll be available for limited hours on certain days, and then reserve a few days to be completely offline. Of course, you need to decide if you?d rather have five days off with no contact or ten days of vacation where you put in a little work each day.

Give as Much Advanced Notice as Possible

Everyone is expected to take time off now and then, and any reasonable client shouldn't bat an eye if you want to take a vacation. The key then is finding a suitable arrangement where your much-needed time off impacts your clients as little as possible. This usually requires thoughtful collaboration and planning well in advance.

If you?d like to be considered a valued member of your client?s team, try to avoid taking vacation during peak times when your involvement is critical. A bad time would be right before a product launch, trade show, or big software release. Again, sharing your vacation plans as early as possible is the best way to ensure a trouble-free time off.

Find Help

One way to free yourself from the day-to-day demands is to hire a virtual office or freelance assistant to take care of basic tasks like fielding calls from clients. Of course, unless you?ve already built a long-term relationship with an individual, you probably shouldn?t trust them to completely take control of the reins while you?re gone. That said, you should think creatively about how others can help while you?re away.

Deduct the Summer Vacation

Tax breaks are available for those who can combine a little pleasure with their business travel. In short, travel expenses related to your trade or business are deductible. If you?re self-employed they go on your Schedule C.

To deduct any travel expenses, the trip needs to be primarily for business. You can include a few days of ?pleasure? in a business trip, but the primary reason for the trip needs to be work. For example, a client meeting or trade conference. In this case, you can deduct any transportation costs (plane tickets, taxis, airport parking, etc.). You can also deduct hotel and meal costs for any of the business days. Refer to IRS Pub 463 for all the details on which expenses can be deducted.

Consider Vacation an Inspiration

Once you stop fretting about what?s happening without you, you?ll be amazed at the impact a vacation can have on your business. Time off can open the flood gates to fresh perspectives and inspiration. For example, while traveling in Mexico, Eric Stumberg hatched the idea for TengoInternet, now the largest wireless Internet provider to campgrounds and RV parks. When you least expect it, you might dream up a brilliant idea, a new way to deal with a troublesome client, or the perfect tagline for your client?s new launch.

Madagascar rivals hold first reconciliation talks

Madagascan leader Andry Rajoelina and the man he toppled in 2009, Marc Ravalomanana, met Wednesday on a remote Seychelles island to force a breakthrough in reconciliation efforts.

"The face-to-face talks between the Madagascan transitional president and his predecessor began this morning on the island of Desroches," a Seychelles government official said.

The meeting lasted for a few hours. Government and civil aviation officials reported Rajoelina left the Seychelles in the afternoon, although a foreign ministry spokesman said he remained on the Indian Ocean archipelago.

Delegates were expected to brief the media later Wednesday on the progress of the talks.

The pair met alongside South African President Jacob Zuma, a key mediator in the talks, which were held on a private beach paradise island some 230 kilometres (140 miles) from the Indian Ocean archipelago's main island, Mahe.

The 15-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC), which is mediating in the talks, has set a July 31 deadline for the rivals to settle their differences, so that a timetable for elections can be unveiled next week under a deal signed last year.

The Indian Ocean island of Madagascar has been mired in political crisis since Rajoelina ousted Ravalomanana in March 2009 with the army's support.

Rajoelina, a former disc jockey who was only 34 when he seized power -- and who had to change the constitution to become eligible for the top job in future polls -- has failed to garner broad international backing.

Rajoelina and Ravalomanana last year signed a "roadmap" toward elections, but the deal has yet to be fully implemented.

The two men have already held talks among the country's main political groups since the ouster of Ravalomanana by Rajoelina, a former mayor of the capital Antananarivo. But they have previously avoided a one-on-one meeting.

Their subordinates have inked several pacts but have yet to find a permanent solution to the three-year crisis engulfing Africa's largest island.

One of the main stumbling blocks is to establish conditions for Ravalomanana's eventual return from his exile in South Africa.

The roadmap signed in September provides for his return home without conditions, but he has twice tried and failed to return to Madagascar.

Moreover, parliament has passed a law which bars people with criminal records from running for office and demands that any presidential aspirants must have paid their taxes in full, effectively excluding Ravalomanana.

In 2010, Ravalomanana was sentenced in absentia to life in prison and hard labour for the murders of around 30 demonstrators, killed by his presidential guard in 2009 protests that led to his overthrow.

"A return to stability in Madagascar is crucial for all the countries in our southern and eastern Africa and Indian Ocean region," Seychelles President James Michel, who also attended the meeting, said in speech Tuesday.

He warned that the island nation, where millions "are sinking into extreme poverty" could be facing a "social catastrophe."

President Obama will travel to Israel if he's elected to a second term, a campaign aide said Monday. ?We can expect him to visit Israel in a second term should he be elected," Colin Kahl, the former deputy assistant secretary of Defense for the Middle East, said on a conference call with reporters. Republican candidate Mitt Romney will visit the country during a trip that will begin later this week, and he plans to meet with Israeli leaders including Prime Minister Benjamin

Comments:
When booing and protests don't matter. When he thinks he can go there and present the keys to Jerusalem to the Arabs. I don't know why anyone who wants Israel to prosper would even want 0bama to be there.

A telling moment in the presidential race came recently when Barack Obama said: "If you've got a business, you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen." He justified elevating bureaucrats over entrepreneurs by referring to bridges and roads, adding: "The Internet didn't get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all companies could make money off the Internet." It's an urban legend that the government launched the Internet. The myth is that the Pentagon created the Internet to keep its communications lines up even in a nuclear strike.
